Queensland Veterans’ Council Bill 2021

On 22 April 2021, the Qld Premier introduced the Queensland Veterans’ Council Bill 2021 (Bill) into the Queensland Parliament. The Bill was referred to the Community Support and Services Committee for detailed consideration and report by Friday 11 June 2021.

The objective of the Bill is to establish the Queensland Veterans’ Council (QVC) as a statutory body. The QVC would have three areas of responsibility:

  • trustee of Anzac Square under the Land Act 1994 and the ongoing management and operation of Anzac Square;
  • the functions of the Board of Trustees under the Anzac Day Act 1995; and
  • providing advice to government on veterans’ matters.

The Bill provided that the QVC would have membership of 8 people, only two of whom would be Veterans.

Submissions were required by Tuesday 18 May and there was a public hearing on 24 May 2021.

DFWAQ made a detailed submission and was called to give evidence at the Hearing.

Details of the Bill, all submissions and the video/transcript of the hearings are available on the Queensland Parliament website.
